neglect:neg-はnotの意味、lectは「拾い上げる、運び出す」の意味。「とりあわない→無視する」となった。
lectureのlectも同様で「読む」の意味があり、それから「講演する」となった。
intellect「選ぶ能力→知力」、collect「いっしょに拾い上げる→集める」も同語源を持つ語である。
